  • Andrea Mantegna (Italian Andrea Mantegna, ca. 1431, Isola di Cartura, Veneto - September 13, 1506, Mantua) - Italian painter, representative of the Padua school of painting. Unlike most other classics of the Italian Renaissance, wrote in a harsh and abrupt manner. One of the greatest humanists of Italy, Mantegna was a connoisseur and collector of ancient art. Thanks including understanding of antiquity, Mantegna became a radical innovator painting.

  • Biography : Mantegna was born about 1431 in the Italian town of Isola di Cartura near Venice, the son of a woodcutter. In 1441 was adopted by the artist Francesco Skvarchone. He studied fine arts, as well as in Latin Skvarchone in 1445 was recorded in the shop painters Padua. At the age of 17 years of Mantegna in the court obtained its independence from Skvarchone and has since worked as an independent artist. In his youth has been influenced by the Florentine school, including Donatello. In 1453 Mantegna married the daughter of Jacopo Bellini Nicolosi (Nicolosi). In 1460 he became court painter of the Duke of Gonzaga. Mantegna died on September 13, 2024 in Mantua.
